About Us

Our Mission

We really love to go camping, but we know that it can sometimes be less than pleasant when your chosen campsite offers a very low standard of basic facilities that can ultimately spoil your holiday. We don’t like that, so we’ve made it our mission to provide you with an unbeatable camping experience, doing everything we can to make sure you have an amazing stay with us.

What makes our site even more special is the wealth of things nearby to see and do. The golden sandy beaches, picture-postcard villages, rolling countryside, grand landscapes and beautiful vistas, the clean environment and friendly locals will make your visit a truly memorable experience.

Great location

Stony Down Plantation is 130 acres of secluded rural broad-leafed and conifer woodland located in the eastern quarter of the picturesque south coast seaside county of Dorset.

With Devon to the west, Somerset and Wiltshire to the north, and Hampshire to the east, it is easily reached from Birmingham in 3 hours, Cardiff in 2 ½ hours and London in under 2 hours.

What’s there?

These are the facilities you’ll find at our campsite:

  • 6 fully kitted-out bell tents including a proper double bed
  • 4 motorhome / caravan pitches
  • 4 tent pitches
  • Private fire pits and outdoor seating area
  • Luxury shower & toilet rooms some of which are available for private hire
  • Communal toilet
  • Covered washing-up station
  • Honesty fridge & freezer
  • Access to the entire private woodland

Let’s talk about the weather

The weather here is something to talk about. We have lower rainfall, higher temperatures and more sunshine than the rest of the UK with Dorset boasting over 350 more hours of sunshine than average every year, making ours one of the most pleasant climates you could possibly find anywhere in Britain.

Within Walking Distance

The outdoor life and the fresh Dorset air helps build up healthy appetites so it’s good to know there are two amazing village pubs nearby that are well worth a visit. The Holme Bush Inn, with its open fire and cosy atmosphere is within easy walking distance. If you fancy a little longer walk you have the Coventry Arms a welcoming and comfortable riverside pub to spend an evening whiling away your their great outdoor riverside garden. Both pubs pride themselves on their friendly service, local beers and tasty, hearty locally-sourced food.
